The Municipality of Loreto, Agusan del Sur, recently commemorated two remarkable milestones—the 60th Araw ng Loreto and the 20th Umajam Festival. Spanning from March 21 to April 4, 2025, this vibrant celebration was a testament to the town's rich cultural heritage, community spirit, and progress.
A Grand Opening Ceremony
The festival officially began on March 31 with a meaningful and symbolic IP Day (Aedow tu Kapuonan). Held at the Umajam Cultural Center, the event honored the indigenous communities of Loreto and their invaluable contributions to the town's identity. A particularly memorable moment was when the municipal mayor, accompanied by esteemed leaders, struck the ceremonial gong, signaling the official start of the celebration. The resounding sound of the gong echoed the spirit of unity and pride shared by everyone in attendance, marking the beginning of a celebration that would be etched in history.
Unity and Cultural Pride
The opening day also featured the Grand Parade, a visual spectacle that brought the streets to life with vibrant costumes and performances. Following the parade, participants and spectators gathered for the Umajam Rider's Club Endurance Ride and Trail, which added a thrilling and adventurous element to the day's events. The combination of cultural pride and festive energy set the tone for the rest of the week.
Cultural Showcase and Competitions
Throughout the festival, various events showcased Loreto's rich cultural tapestry. The Bubuta to Manok event highlighted indigenous traditions, while competitions like the Drum and Lyre Contest and the Umajam Dance Battle celebrated local talent and creativity. These activities not only entertained but also fostered a deep sense of pride in Loreto's heritage.
A Celebration of Talent and Beauty
The festival's highlight for many was the Bai Umajam Grand Coronation Night on April 3, where outstanding individuals competed for the prestigious title. Renowned judges such as Shamcey Supsup and Gazini Ganados graced the event, adding an air of glamour and prestige. The evening also featured the much-anticipated Kaanyag Concert, which drew massive crowds to the Umajam Cultural Center.
Gratitude and Reflection
The celebration concluded with Pasalamat on April 4—a day dedicated to thanksgiving and reflection. The Thanksgiving Mass and the Mass Demo Parade brought the community together one last time, culminating in the Barangayan Nights and Binaga Festival. The final Fireworks Display lit up the sky, leaving attendees with unforgettable memories.
A Festival to Remember
The 60th Araw ng Loreto and 20th Umajam Festival proved to be more than just a series of events—it was a celebration of milestones, unity, and culture. Social media platforms buzzed with posts from attendees, capturing the joy and vibrancy of the festival.
