Agusan del Sur Strengthens Poverty Reduction Efforts with New Monitoring System
The Municipal Planning and Development Office (MPDO) of Loreto, Agusan del Sur, under the guidance of the Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO), held a one-day orientation and workshop on the Local Poverty Incidence Index (LPII) and the province's existing poverty alleviation program. This initiative aimed to align municipal programs, projects, and activities (PPAs) with the provincial program and encourage Municipal Local Government Units (MLGUs) to sustain poverty reduction efforts.
A new, beneficiary-centric system was introduced to assess whether the 2024-2025 Municipal Annual Investment Programs (MAIPs) align with provincial goals. This more granular tool requires a detailed breakdown of projects and activities, including:
- Specific project descriptions
- Quantity and cost of outputs
- Target locations
- Number of beneficiaries (disaggregated by gender)
- Project remarks
Provincial speakers highlighted that this approach will help them evaluate the impact of allocated budgets on poverty reduction. While implementing the system may require additional effort, strict adherence is expected to lead to more effective monitoring of poverty alleviation strategies.
By leveraging this new system, Agusan del Sur hopes to see a continuous decline in poverty incidence within the province.
