April 2024 Feature: 19th Umajam Festival and 59th Araw ng Loreto

Immerse Yourself in Culture: Celebrate the Vibrant 19th Umajam Festival and 59th Araw ng Loreto!




Loreto, Agusan del Sur recently concluded its 19th Umajam Festival and 59th Araw ng Loreto, showcasing the town's rich cultural heritage and fostering a strong sense of community. This annual event attracts visitors seeking a glimpse into the unique traditions and dynamic spirit of Loreto.




The List of Activities

A Week-Long Celebration of Unity



The festivities commenced with a grand mass called Panaghiusa on March 31, 2024, seeking blessings for a joyous and successful celebration. The event highlighted the importance placed on youth development, with children's angelic voices filling the air.

Pasigarbo Day, the opening ceremony on April 1st, began with pre-dawn sound checks at the Umajam Municipal Dome, followed by the Panawagtawag, a Manobo tradition honoring ethnic culture. 



A vibrant Grand Parade filled the streets, showcasing the town's growing population and their enthusiastic participation.



Unveiling Local Talents



The 2nd day featured a captivating drum and lyre competition among Loreto's national high schools. Binucayan National High School impressed the crowd with their exceptional performance, taking home the top prize.



The afternoon saw the State of the Municipality Address (SOMA), where residents learned about local leaders' accomplishments and future plans for Loreto's development. The dedication of government officials, employees, and workers was celebrated with an employees' night, featuring a special performance by renowned Filipino singer Moira dela Torre



A dazzling fireworks display capped off the day.



A Festival Full of Activities



Beyond the cultural showcases, the Umajam Festival offered a variety of activities catering to different interests:



      • Thrill-seekers got their adrenaline pumping at the Umajam Riders Club Endurance Ride, a test of skill and stamina for motorbike enthusiasts.

      • Sports fans cheered on their favorite teams during the Umajam Basketball Tournaments, Umajam Marathon, Shoot Fest, and other sports, showcasing the town's competitive spirit.


Giving Back to the Community

The festival wasn't just about fun and festivities. The "Kasing-Kasing ni Aping Serbisyo Caravan" brought essential government services directly to the people:



      • Job Fair: Provided residents with opportunities to connect with potential employers and explore career options.

      • Agricultural Services: Offered valuable assistance to local farmers, including consultations and access to resources.

      • Free Haircut, Manicure/Pedicure: Pampered residents and boosted their confidence with these complimentary beauty services.

      • Medical Mission: Delivered much-needed medical care to the community, including checkups, consultations, and access to medications.

      • Legal Consultation: Provided residents with free legal advice and guidance on various matters.

      • Other Services

This initiative demonstrated the government's commitment to serving the community and improving the lives of its residents.

Paindigay Day on April 2nd celebrated the vital role of Indigenous Peoples (IPs) in the community. Attendees witnessed captivating presentations of their unique traditions and cultural heritage.


Strengthening Bonds


Barangayan Night on Panagtapok Day (April 3rd) fostered inclusivity and unity. Barangay captains and officials gathered to strengthen their bonds and showcase their unique cultural performances.


A Grand Finale Filled with Joy


The grand finale on April 4th was a non-stop party! People from across the Philippines came together to celebrate with live music and vibrant performances. Those unable to attend virtually experienced the excitement through live videos on the official Facebook page Shine Loreto Bibo Loreto. The most viewed video featured the Bai Umajam Grand Coronation Night, garnering over 178K views.
