A Celebration for Every Loretohanon: MLGU Loreto Redefines the Year-End Party

The Municipal Local Government Unit (MLGU) of Loreto, Agusan del Sur, recently held its Year-End Public Service Assessment and Solidarity Assembly, setting a benchmark for how local governments can honor their workforce while remaining deeply rooted in the community. Far from being a mere social gathering, this event served as a formal venue to recognize the tireless dedication of public servants who have championed the municipality’s progress over the past year.

A Legacy of Continuity and Compassionate Governance

This tradition of inclusive recognition is rooted in the compassionate heart of the former Municipal Mayor, whose administration was defined by a “heart for the people.” It was her vision that first brought the “party for all” to life, ensuring the holiday spirit reached every corner of the community.

Today, that legacy is being carried forward with equal fervor by her husband, the current Mayor of the Municipality. While the concept of a political dynasty is often met with debate in a national context, the experience in Loreto offers a compelling counter-perspective. Here, the continuity of leadership has served as a bridge for progress rather than a barrier. It suggests that a political dynasty can indeed be a force for good when the leaders are high-performing, results-oriented, and share a genuine heart for the people they serve. Honoring Lifetimes of Excellence

A poignant highlight of the assembly was the recognition of recently retired employees, many of whom have dedicated more than 20 years of their lives to the MLGU. The ceremony also celebrated the “creme de la creme” of the workforce—the Provincial, Regional, and National Awardees. Fostering Unity through the Inter-Agency Variety Show

To break down “silos” between different offices, the program featured an Inter-Agency Solidarity Variety Show. Employees from various municipal departments, units, and national agencies were integrated into five collaborative groups to showcase their hidden talents. The stage became a canvas for:

• Theatrical Performances: Moving skits that reflected the challenges and triumphs of public service.
• Dynamic Dancing and Singing: High-energy routines that showcased the vibrant energy of the Loretohanon spirit.

Championing Diversity and Social Inclusion

In compliance with Gender and Development (GAD) mandates, MLGU Loreto utilized the assembly to promote radical inclusivity. The event was simple in terms of dress code, favoring comfort over luxury, yet it still allowed for creative expression. The “Best Attire” awards were thoughtfully categorized into three:

1. Best Female Attire
2. Best Male Attire
3. Best LGBTQ+ Attire

By specifically honoring the LGBTQ+ community alongside their peers, the MLGU reinforced its position as a progressive and inclusive employer that values every identity within the government workforce.

 

An All-Inclusive Community Reach

True to its mission of serving the “last, the least, and the lost,” the assembly’s reach extended beyond the town hall’s walls. The grand gesture of the event was the distribution of gifts to everyone, ensuring no one was left out:

• Informal Sector Recognition: Gifts were extended to the tricycle drivers waiting for passengers outside, acknowledging them as vital partners in the local economy and transport system.
• Youth and Children: Even the local youth and children were able to participate, making it a true celebration of unity across generations.
