This article may be a big slap in the faces of many and may bring our brand down, but we need to express this in the hopes that it might help those lazy people realize their negative contribution to the economy and the progress of their community. Find out the twist at the end.
Lazy People
Bill Gates once said he would hire lazy people because they find ways to make their work easier and faster. It saves his company time and money, but that's not the case in many Munical Local Government Units (MLGUs) or probably many other areas in the Philippines. Lazy people here don't work or don't find ways to improve and make things better. They choose to be a burden rather than a help.
We do not want to bring anybody down, but sometimes we have to be slapped by reality to help us reflect on ourselves, learn, and do better. We hope that the readers of this post will not see this from a negative perspective.
In the Asian Development Bank's (ADB) online data, the population in the Philippines who lived below the national poverty line in 2021 was 18.1%. The total population of the Philippines in that year, based on Macrotrends' website, was 111,046,913.
What might be the problem that hinders the Philippines from keeping up with its neighboring developing countries?
Crab Mentality
Citizens of other nations also have this mentality, but not the majority. We are doubtful about that statement, so we did a little research. We found out that the origin of the term "crab mentality" is a Filipina named Ninotchka Rosca, an activist, author, and journalist.
After reading a Quora discourse about crab mentality, we learned that the above traits are prevalent in many other countries. So, we looked for topics on what makes countries great instead.
Qualities of great countries
A BBC article titled, "How can you measure what makes a country great?" concluded that we should look at its commitment to its citizens and the length if we are looking for what makes a country great.
U.S. News also shared "How the 2022 Best Countries Were Ranked."
