The inhabitants of Loreto have been grappling with the depletion of their natural resources, leading to dwindling income sources due to river and lake siltation caused by forest degradation.
Challenges Faced by Loreto
Loreto's once-thriving fishing grounds, such as the Umayam River and Lake Panlabuhan, have seen a decline in fish populations, impacting the local tribes' food sources, particularly the Manobo tribe. The situation drove many to seek greener pastures outside the municipality, as relying solely on nature's gifts became insufficient to meet their families' needs.
The pandemic further exacerbated the situation, forcing businesses, including the accommodation sector, to shutter their operations. In response, the local government, known as the MLGU Loreto, embarked on a journey to establish local economic enterprises to reinvigorate the economy. The creation of Loreto Microtel, aligned with the municipality's vision of eco-friendly development, emerged as a pivotal step.
Birth of Loreto Microtel
By the third quarter of 2022, fueled by demand and mounting unemployment, the MLGU decided to unveil Loreto Microtel to the public. Every member of Loreto's population, regardless of age, gender, or background, was deemed valuable, and the Loreto Microtel Team emerged as a diverse blend of talents, skill sets, and identities. The hiring process prioritized capabilities, fostering an environment where individuals of varying sexual orientations and ages coexisted.
Rooms and Rates
Loreto Microtel boasts a range of rooms catering to different preferences and budgets. From the cozy Single Room, accommodating one occupant, to the Twin Room, offering two beds and modern amenities, the options are versatile. The VIP Deluxe Rooms, including Deluxe, Matrimonial, and Presidential Suite, cater to luxury seekers.
For larger groups, the Dormitory Rooms for ten or twenty people offer practical and economical choices. These rooms, equipped with double-deck beds, provide a comfortable stay at accessible rates.
Loreto Microtel Rooms and Rates
Single Room
The hotel has five single rooms, which cost one thousand one hundred (Php 1,100.00) Philippine pesos per room for one night.
Twin Room
There are six twin rooms with a starting price of one thousand seven hundred (Php 1,700.00) per night.
VIP Deluxe Room
The VIP rooms they call Deluxe (1), Matrimonial (2), and Presidential Suite (1) are costly because of the better facilities. The price starts at two thousand one hundred (Php 2,100.00), two thousand eight hundred (Php 2,800.00), and up to five thousand pesos (Php 5,000.00), respectively.

It is a hotel dormitory because some rooms accommodate ten to twenty (10-20) people. They are rooms with five (5) or ten (10) double decks. The dormitory for ten (10) costs three thousand five hundred pesos (Php 3,500.00) per room per night or three hundred (Php 350.00) per bed, while the starting price of the dormitory room for twenty is twice the rate of the dorm for ten, excluding the rate for the bed.

Additionally, guests enjoy access to an outdoor swimming pool, enhancing their vacation experience. The hotel management is still developing deals to ensure that every peso paid by their clients is worthy and that they will have a great stay in Loreto, Agusan del Sur.
